Koncept padobrana postoji stoljećima međutim, moderni padobran, kao uređaj za spašavanje ili sport, razvijen je kroz znanstvena istraživanja i inovacije tijekom 16. 17. i 18. stoljeća. Na razvoj padobrana značajan utjecaj imao je Faust Vrančić hrvatski izumitelj, diplomat i inženjer koji je živio u 16. stoljeću. Poznat je po svojim brojnim doprinosima znanosti i tehnici svog vremena, uključujući i rad na razvoju ranih verzija padobrana. Njegovo naslijeđe danas se smatra važnim dijelom hrvatske i europske znanstvene baštine.

The concept of the parachute has existed for centuries; however, the modern parachute, as a rescue or sports device, was developed through scientific research and innovation during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. Faust Vrančić, a Croatian inventor, diplomat, and engineer who lived in the 16th century, significantly influenced the development of the parachute. He is known for his numerous contributions to science and technology of his time, including work on early versions of parachutes. His legacy is now considered an important part of Croatian and European scientific heritage.
